A site scan tells you which links on your store lead to a missing page. But it doesn’t tell you why the page is missing, and that’s usually the part that takes time to figure out. Maybe the product was deleted, maybe its URL handle changed, or maybe it’s still a draft.
Now you can ask Sidekick, Shopify’s AI assistant, to find out for you. Open a site scan in Link Manager and click Explain with Sidekick at the top of the page to ask about all the broken links in that scan. To ask about one link, click the Explain with Sidekick icon in its row.
Sidekick gets the details of each broken link from Link Manager and then checks your store for the reason. For example, it can tell you that a product link is broken because the product is archived, or that a page now has a different URL handle. Then it tells you how to fix it: correct the link, publish the product again, or add a redirect to the right page.
Sidekick also tells you where the link is so you know where to make the change. A link on almost every page is usually in your header or footer menu, so one change in Online Store > Navigation fixes all of those pages. A link on a few pages is usually in their content (a product description or a blog post), and Sidekick gives you a link to edit each one.
Site scans now record the text of each link and the part of your theme it’s in (your header, your footer or a section of a page template). This helps Sidekick find the link faster. Scans you ran before today don’t have this information, so run a new scan to get it.
Sidekick only suggests changes. It doesn’t change your store unless you ask it to in your own message.
The Explain with Sidekick buttons show when Sidekick is available on your store. Sidekick works in the Shopify admin in a web browser, not in the Shopify mobile app.
