Shopify now lets you save the packed size of each variant, the length, width, and height of the item when it’s ready to ship. In the Shopify admin it’s the Packed product size row in the Shipping section of a variant. Shopify uses these sizes to pick the smallest of your saved packages that fits an order. You can now bulk edit them with the new Shipping Dimensions field.
You can set the length, width, and height together, or change only one and leave the others blank to keep their current values. You can also increase or decrease a dimension by an amount or a percent. For example, add 2 inches to the width of every variant in a collection. There are also options to convert the dimensions between centimeters and inches, or to remove them. Shopify only supports centimeters and inches for these sizes.
Shopify only uses the dimensions of physical products, so the edit skips variants that don’t have Physical product turned on and the preview shows which ones. To turn it on and set the dimensions in one edit, add the Physical product (requires shipping) field to the same edit.
Spreadsheets work too. Pick Shipping Dimensions on the export page and the file gets four columns: Packed Length, Packed Width, Packed Height, and Packed Dimensions Unit. Upload the same columns as a spreadsheet edit and they map automatically. Blank cells keep the current value, so a sheet with only a Packed Width column changes only the width.
The edit results show the old and new dimensions of each variant, and you can undo the edit like any other.
