When you edit a file reference metafield, you can now click Browse files to open Shopify’s file picker and choose files directly from your store’s Files area. Previously you had to enter a file URL, filename, or file ID by hand; now you can find the file visually and select it, with no copying and pasting required.
The Browse files button is available everywhere the app asks you for a file:
- Set file for a single-file
file_referencemetafield - Set the list to a new value for a
list.file_referencemetafield, where you can select multiple files at once - Add a file to the start or end of the list for a
list.file_referencemetafield
Because the picker selects the exact file from your store, there’s no chance of a typo in a URL or filename causing the edit to fail. Files you select are added alongside any values you’ve already entered, and duplicates are skipped automatically.
You can still type a file URL, filename, or file ID instead — that’s the way to reference a file that isn’t in your store’s Files area yet, since a URL is uploaded to your store as part of the edit.
