Shopify’s category taxonomy has a lot of duplicate leaf names. “Shirts” shows up under Maternity Tops, Baby & Toddler Tops, regular Clothing Tops, and a few others. The in-app edit field already showed the parent category subdued on the right so you could tell them apart, but the category filter dropdown in product search didn’t, and the edit preview table only showed the leaf name. So you could end up looking at a list of identical “Shirts” rows or reviewing an edit without knowing which Shirts you were about to apply.
The category filter dropdown now shows the parent on the right of each option, matching the edit field. The edit preview shows the parent in subdued text after the category name (e.g. “2-in-1 Steam Mops (Mops)”) for both the old and new values. And the edit history page used to render raw gid://shopify/TaxonomyCategory/... IDs when the frontend cache happened to be empty, which it always was on a direct page load. Those GIDs are now resolved server-side, so the history table shows the same name-plus-parent format as everywhere else.
